MUST READ: Expiration of Advertiser Keyword Links

Commission Junction
September 14, 2009
Dear Valued Commission Junction Publisher,

We are committed to making Commission Junction the easiest network to manage your affiliate relationships. If you use search engine marketing (SEM) to promote your advertisers, then you are probably familiar with the keyword link, which your advertisers may have used to define the keyword terms that they recommend and/or prohibit their publishers from using in SEM campaigns. Unfortunately, you don't always know when an advertiser has made a change to their keyword links.

We think it's important for you to be notified about such changes so we have added features to the program terms that allow advertisers to include the same information that they've included in their keyword links into their program terms as optional SEM Policies. Whenever an advertiser modifies the SEM policies in their program terms you'll receive an email notification outlining the details of your current program term and the new term including any changes to the SEM Policies. By including the SEM Policies in program terms you'll also be guaranteed a full 7 days advance notice prior to the new program term going into effect so you'll be able to make any changes to your SEM campaigns to ensure that you will remain compliant with your advertisers' program terms.

You may have already received new program terms from some advertisers with SEM Policies. On October 1, 2009 all remaining keyword links will be expired and advertisers will no longer be able to create new keyword links. The expired keyword links will remain visible in the CJ Account Manager for you to review through October 31, 2009. As a result:

  • You may begin to receive new program terms from your advertisers that have not yet included their SEM policies in their program terms.
  • With each new program term you will receive an email from Commission Junction with details about these changes. We want you to be prepared for the potentially high volume of emails.
  • If the program terms only include changes to their SEM Policies you will not be required to manually accept the new terms in order to maintain your active relationship with your advertisers, they will automatically rollover after the 7-day waiting period.
  • If your new program terms do include a change to any special terms and conditions the email will direct you to log into your Commission Junction account to review these changes and accept the new program terms.
  • If you have performance incentives in your program terms we recommend that you do not accept any terms until the end of the month in order to receive the maximum performance incentive.
  • We recommend that you at least review each email to confirm the nature of the program term changes.

Once all of your advertisers have included their SEM Policies into their program terms you can go download the list of "My Advertisers" from the CJ Account Manager including only the policies you want to view, which will provide you with a single source of information for all your advertisers' SEM Policies.

We understand that the volume of emails and new program terms may be overwhelming between now and the October 31st deadline but we hope you'll agree that including the SEM Policies into the program terms is essential to providing publishers with fair and timely notice of important changes to an advertiser's SEM Policies.

Sincerely,

Commission Junction
